Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy
Mr. Patrink Young is a Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). He writes new STEM curricula for the State of Illinois and provides professional development to classroom teachers. Patrick earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland. As an engineer for McDonnell Douglas Space Systems, he managed the development of life support and environmental control system hardware which flew on 18 STS missions.
After completing a Masters of Education in Secondary Education from Alabama A&M, Patrick entered the high school classroom. For the next 13 years, he taught students in astronomy, biology, chemistry, and AP physics before going to work in higher ed. In higher education, he worked on academic programming, curriculum writing, and K-12 outreach for Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. He also provided professional development to teachers in Inquiry, Problem Based Learning (PBL), Integrative STEM, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
